Holiday Gift Guide 2010

Gifts Just For Her

Beauty products are always a top gift pick for women. I know I get excited whenever I’m gifted a new lotion, skin care product, or other cosmetic goodies! So today, I’d like to introduce you to a company called Frownies, who carry a wide variety of interesting skin care products, perfect for stocking stuffers and gift baskets!

Beautiful Eyes Bag

Beautiful Eyes Bag – $89.97

I received a complimentary Beautiful Eyes Bag to review (pictured above), and not only is the cute packaging perfect for gift-giving, but it’s very handy for keeping all your products in one place! This kit contains four different items, each of which can be purchased separately:

Frownies Immune Shield

Frownies Immune Shield – $32.00

Frownies Immune Shield Vitamin E Skin Serum is a rich, moisturizing oil treatment for the face and skin. I dab this sparingly under my eyes and on my neck as a deep moisturizing treatment at night.

Frownies Rose Water Hydrator Spray

Frownies Rose Water Hydrator Spray – $10.95

Frownies Rose Water Hydrator Spray is one of the staples of their product line. This spray is used in conjunction with other Frownies products (see below), and can also be used on its own as a toner. When my skin is feeling tired after a long day, I can spritz on some of the Rose Water Hydrator Spray and it’s rather soothing and refreshing. This would be nice to have on long flights!

Frownies All Natural Under Eye Treatment Patch

Frownies All Natural Under Eye Treatment Patch (3 sets of 2) – $37.50

Frownies All Natural Under Eye Treatment Patch is another great product for soothing tired skin. These gel patches can be applied under the eyes for 30 minutes as a pampering treatment. One night, my eyes were tired and burning after getting only 4 hours of sleep, so I applied the gel patches and it soothed the skin right away. After removing them, my skin felt noticeably more refreshed. Once you’re done with the patch, you can place it back in its plastic tray and spritz with the Rose Water Hydrator Spray to re-moisten it. Store it in your fridge and re-use until the patch dissolves or dries up.

Frownies Patches

Frownies Forehead & Between The Eyes Patches – $19.95

Finally, we have Frownies’ flagship product: their Forehead & Between The Eyes Patches! This is an extremely unique anti-wrinkle product that consists of triangular, sticky kraft paper pieces. You spritz these with the Rose Water Hydrator Spray and apply them to your face before going to bed, with the goal of reducing lines. According to Frownies, the product is supposed to work by retraining the facial muscles and “re-educating” them to rest in a different position in order to reduce the appearance of lines.

In the last few months, I’ve started getting lines on my forehead that I despise. So the first time I tried Frownies Patches, I put them all over my forehead and around my mouth and eyes, for good measure. I looked quite ridiculous so Jai was very amused, especially because I couldn’t move my face or laugh! It was uncomfortable the first night, but I got used to having them on and it doesn’t bother me now. Your face feels permanently surprised while you’re wearing them, and that also takes a day or two to get used to. The only thing I don’t like about wearing Frownies is that I have a hard time removing them. Although I saturate them in water and wash my face, I still feel like I’m ripping them off, and I don’t like all that tugging on the skin! I stopped wearing them around my eyes because I think that area is too delicate for it, but I continue to use them on my forehead. I have also noticed after wearing them recently that I had red splotches on the skin where the Frownies had been applied previously. I have notoriously sensitive skin, so hopefully I will be able to continue using them.

What I find intriguing about Frownies is the idea that it could retrain your muscles. After a few days of wearing them, I could feel that my forehead muscles were resting in a different position – it’s hard to explain, but it was more like my face relaxed into a wide-eyed mode rather than sinking into a furrow of concentration. When I wake up, my forehead looks very smooth and the lines are barely there, but the wrinkles pop back quickly. I haven’t used Frownies consistently enough yet to give a final verdict on whether it will help my brow lines or not; although I’ve had the patches for a while and have the best of intentions with my skin care routine, I’ve only managed to use the Frownies Patches sporadically. The box guarantees “Results in 30 days” so I’d like to get into the habit of using them frequently because I am fascinated by the concept, although skeptical as always. It reminds me of what our mothers would always say – “Don’t frown, you’ll get wrinkles!”

I think that finding a pampering skin care product in your stocking would be a great treat on Christmas morning! One note of caution: Because some of these products are geared towards reducing wrinkles, be careful what you choose for your recipient so that you don’t unintentionally cause hurt feelings.

All of the products featured in this article are available on Frownies.com.
